New Oak Ranch– at the peak of lavender season a purple haze of pastoral serenity spreads across the upper Ojai valley as 5000 lavender plants blossom.

New Oak is a U-pick lavender farm with over 15 varieties growing, it is open on the weekends and by appointment during the season Mid June through the end of July .

like Bee’s and Butterflies, lavender and love are an ancient match. Empresses and Queens have used lavender’s magical qualities in the art of seduction for century’s. Cleopatra, who, according to legend, used lavender to seduce Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.

As an herb, lavender has been in documented use for over 2,500 years. It has a rich history spanning many cultures and a varied and wide use as a healing, purifying agent, to cook with, perfume the air, bathe in and was used as a cure for everything from insomnia and aching backs to insanity.

In Medieval and Renaissance Europe, lavender was strewn over the stone floors of castles for use as a disinfectant and deodorant. European royal history is also filled with stories of lavender use. Charles VI of France demanded lavender-filled pillows wherever he went.
