The Quartz Crystal births the Digital Age and Inspires the World.
The conversion of the humble quartz crystal into silicon chips has made the technological revolution possible. Giving us computers, mobile devices and an unrepresented communication breakthroughs.
Tapping into this Global Crystal phenomenon we see quartz crystal popping up in Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, The Crystal Cave of Giants, Chanel’s Runway in Paris, The Ice Hotel in Sweden and Kelly Wearstler’s Store window in Los Angeles. The humble quartz crystal revered throughout the ages as symbols of beauty, health and often power. Has become an essential element to 2012 modern glamour and indispensable to 21st century living.
Superman’s “Secret Citadel” The Fortress of Solitude. A trademark of the Fortress is that it contains a memorial statue of Jor-El and Lara, Superman’s Kryptonian parents, holding a large globe of Krypton. Although Superman has living quarters at the Fortress, his main residence is still Clark Kent’s apartment in Metropolis. The arctic Fortress of Solitude concept was first created for pulp hero Doc Savage during the 1930s.
The Ice Hotel in Sweden, I imagine this could be Superman’s bed at the Fortress of Solitude.
The Sweden Ice Hotel is built and rebuilt by a new team of artisans and architects each winter season. Not only is the entire Ice Hotel structure made totally of ice, but all of the furniture and most of the decor found within is also made from ice. Beds at the Sweden Ice Hotel are slabs of solid ice, and chairs are carved from blocks of ice. For comfort, reindeer skin blankets are draped over beds and chairs to offer (moderate) warmth. It is not a only a hotel build each winter, it is an ephemeral art project.
Ice Chandeliers resembling quartz crystal and illuminated with fiber optics line the hallway at the hotel.
Diamond Genesis – One could sleep like a proper Ice Hotel Princess on this diamond faceted bed.
Although they look like they could be a room at the freezing Ice Hotel The Giant Crystal Caves of the Naica Mine discovered in 2000 are actually 112 degrees Fahrenheit and 1000 feet below the ground in the heart of Chihuahua Mexico.

Modern Glass Glass slippers in mineralized colors, Cinderella would be so jealous.
I spied this quartz crystal beauty in the window of Kelly Wearstler’s new Melrose boutique on my way home from a dinner party last week, it’s glorious illuminated shape nestled in golden powder and topped with one of her objects of desire stopped me dead in my tracks. Serious Eye Candy I’d Say.
At the front entrance of Kelly’s Boutique I am welcomed by a gorgeous brass door handle set with crystal and minerals. Divine!
